TRAVEL STORIES: Travel Day at Home

I’ve recently found a love for travelling and, within that, art. My perfect travel day includes styling a creative outfit (usually something I’m not confident enough to display at home), and wandering on foot through a new city, stopping whenever something catches my eye, a vague direction on my Maps. That location is usually an art gallery, followed by a visit to a historic local waterhole for a beer, a bite, and some work.

Lately, I’ve been challenging my comfort zone and exploring the limitations I’ve set for myself and my life choices, which include my city. Having recently moved from Toronto, Winnipeg can seem small, dull, and boring, to speak blatantly. Yet I realized that as much me as it is my location! I can create my favourite creative day here at home just as easily as in Barcelona, Athens, or Mexico City.

So I changed my outfit, threw on my walking shoes, and set off to explore the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), followed by happy hour and some research at Harvard Market downtown. And my heart was full and happy!

A few quick shout-outs:

  1. The WAG is impressive! I strongly encourage you to check it out -- often https://www.wag.ca/.

  2. . Thank you to the teenager who complimented my fit (I doubt she’s on LinkedIn, but if you are, you made my day! What’s better than an unsolicited compliment from a teenager?)

  3. While I may still complain about some of our amenities, I stand by this statement: Winnipeg/Manitoba has THE BEST people, and I'm proud to call so many of them my friends!
